In this post I'm looking at the barriers we face when learning to embrace our creative side. Societal pressure, fear, uncertainty, shame. There are a whole host of things that can keep us from claiming our creativity and sharing it with the world. The key here is, yet again, grace - to grow, to leave space for exploration, to allow for missteps and imperfections on the creative journey. My question to you today is: what barriers have you overcome in your pursuit of embracing your creativity? How do you overcome those barriers, and what do you think taking up space as a creative has done for your overall creative life?

I think you have to take up space or you stagnate. At least if you mean it in the sense that you claim your right to use your time and energy in the pursuit of your creative expression. Pursuing a creative goal doesn't mean everything you produce is going to be perfect, or even successful, but show me any professional anything who hasn't made mistakes in the course of learning and perfecting their skills. If we let the world tell us what we're doing isn't worth the time or effort it takes to get batter at it, or to even bother doing it, we stop growing as people because we are neglecting the things that make us unique individuals. Maybe if more people spent time pursuing their creative joys, there would be fewer people with the time or energy to tell them they're doing it wrong.
