In today's post I wanted to share a piece of my journey with all of you! This piece is specifically centered around my writing journey, but regardless of creative discipline I hope it speaks to you in some way, or gives you the push to share some of your creative journey with all of us!
The main point of today's post, though it may no be the clearest is this: Persistence can get you through inconsistency. There will be times on the creative journey when 'consistency is key' just doesn't ring true or have the follow through you know you're capable of, and that is okay, so long as you persistent when it matters to you and you continue to try again and again to keep your creativity alive.
Your journey is really interesting. The stopping and starting isn't unusual at all. At least not to me. I go through bouts of journaling, but I find, without prompts, I end up kvetching about all the annoying things I have to deal with, which saps my energy to do anything, rather than invigorating me to get creative. Freestyle journaling, I have decided, isn't particularly healthy for me. For anyone who's looking for a fun and varied writing prompt book, look for a book called Just Write One Thing Today by John Gillard. It has a lot of varied prompts, some long, some short, and I found it really useful to get things moving in my brain and inspire me to work on my own stuff, as well. I love that it isn't all "write a story about..." type prompts. There are things like "Describe the colour red five different ways, without using any actual colour words" (Like that. I may have just made that up.) But generally, prompts that force you to look at ways of wording that plain prose prompts don't. But be careful with this book. It might spark a million new book ideas you'll have to write, so... duly warned.
